  • The headline coverage number is a 1 air-change-per-hour figure. Levoit markets "changes the air in a 1051 ft2 room once per hour", but its own spec table puts the same unit at 219 ft² at 4.8 ACH — a 4.8x difference for the identical machine.
  • The unit this Amazon listing now ships is the Core 300S-P, and both certifiers treat that revision differently from the Core 300S: AHAM records it as "Fan Filter with Ion Generator" and CARB lists LAP-C302S-WUSR and -WUSB as Electronic (G-21-544), the class that must be ozone-emission tested. Levoit's manual documents no ion stage and no control to switch one off, so confirm which revision is in the box before assuming this is a mechanical-only purifier.

The catch is which unit you receive: the -P revision is measured separately and comes out differently. CARB certifies the original Core 300S as a mechanical device (G-21-183) and Levoit badges it "Ozone Free", but Levoit has replaced it on its own storefront and on its Amazon listing with the Core 300S-P, which CARB classifies as Electronic and which AHAM's directory records as carrying an ion generator — a component Levoit's own manual neither describes nor gives you a way to switch off. Which of the two revisions actually arrives changes the central claim on this page, so confirm it before buying.

The entry exists: 141 cfm smoke, 156 dust, 175 pollen, 219 sq ft, read in the directory's own interface. The manufacturer-of-record attribution to Arovast Corporation, dropped for the same reason, has been restored. What has not changed is the substantive warning on this page: the revision sold under this name may be the 300S-P, which both AHAM and CARB record as having an ion generator, and which measures differently.

  • You need to cover an open-plan living room much over 250 sq ft at a real air-change rate. Levoit rates this unit at 141 CFM and sizes it at 219 ft² at 4.8 ACH; a unit in the 300+ cfm smoke-CADR class (Levoit's own Core 600S-P is AHAM Verifide at 391–394 cfm smoke for 606–611 ft²) is the correct size class rather than running this one flat out.
  • You want a washable main filter because running cost over several years matters more to you than peak filtration. The Core 300S main filter is explicitly not cleanable — Levoit's maintenance table says "Main Filter — Do not clean" — and is a 6–8 month consumable, so a purifier with a washable permanent filter is the better trade for you even though it filters less.
  • You specifically want the original Core 300S rather than its replacement, and you cannot confirm which one you will receive. Amazon's long-standing listing (ASIN B08L73QL1V) now occupies the "Core 300S-P" slot of the style twister and its Included Components field reads "1 x Core 300S-P Smart Air Purifier", while a separate live child ASIN, B0G19ZCNP9, occupies the "Core 300S" slot. There is no AHAM record for the Core 300S to compare against, and AHAM's three Core 300S-P records differ from each other: LAP-C302S-WUSR and LAP-C302S-WUSB at 144 cfm smoke / 156 dust / 148 pollen, 223 ft², and LAP-C302-WUSR at 139 / 156 / 155 cfm, 215 ft². The 219 ft² figure appears twice in Levoit's own documentation, in the product-page spec table and in the manual's troubleshooting page ("Make sure the room is smaller than 219 ft² / 20 m²"), so it is consistent across manufacturer sources, and AHAM's directory prints the same 219 sq ft against its Core 300S record, so manufacturer and certifier agree on this one. The 1,051 sq ft figure used in Levoit's marketing copy ("Changes the air in a 1051 ft2 room once per hour") is a single air change per hour.

Always compare two purifiers at the same air-change rate; manufacturers pick different ones and the headline square footage is not otherwise comparable.

  • WHICH REVISION SHIPS IS NOT KNOWABLE FROM THE LISTING. Its specification table says the model number is Core 300S; its included-components line says the box holds a Core 300S-P. Both listings in this family state both. What that means for a buyer, and how to identify the unit that arrives, is set out at the top of this page.
  • THE LISTING TITLE CLAIMS “AHAM VERIFIDE”, AND THAT CLAIM IS TRUE OF EITHER REVISION. AHAM's live directory carries the plain Core 300S and all three Core 300S-P variants. The mark therefore settles nothing about which unit is in the box, which is why this page still tells you how to check your own — the revisions differ on pollen CADR, on room size and, more seriously, on whether AHAM records an ion generator.
  • BOTH REVISIONS ARE CARB CERTIFIED, UNDER DIFFERENT ORDERS AND DIFFERENT DEVICE TYPES. Worked from the CDC/NIOSH relation air changes = (CADR × 60) ÷ (area × ceiling height), assuming an 8 ft ceiling. Change the ceiling height and these numbers change. AHAM’s own consumer rule — a smoke CADR of at least two-thirds of the room’s area — puts the ceiling for this unit at about 212 ft², which is the same arithmetic at roughly five air changes an hour.

Ionizer and ozone

Which of the two revisions this listing ships is not knowable in advance, so read this before treating the unit as filtration-only. None documented for the original Core 300S. CARB's certified-device list classifies "Levoit / Air Purifier / Core 300S" as type Mechanical (notified 2021-05-13, executive order G-21-183) — under California's regime only electronic air cleaners must be ozone-emission tested against the 50 ppb limit, so a Mechanical classification means CARB did not identify an ion- or ozone-generating component in that unit. The 24-page Levoit user manual for the Core 300S / Core 300S-P series contains no occurrence of the words ozone, ionizer, negative ion, plasma or UV anywhere in its text, and the stages it documents are a pre-filter, a main filter and an activated carbon layer. Levoit's product page carries an explicit "Ozone Free" feature badge. The caveat that matters for buyers: the successor now shipping under this Amazon listing, the Core 300S-P, is classified differently by both certifiers. The usage assumption behind that range is not published, and that is the part worth knowing. Levoit documents only that the interval is usage-dependent — the manual adds "You may need to replace your filter earlier or later depending on how often you use your air purifier," and the VeSync store page adds "If you live with high exposure to pollutants (airborne fur, dust, smoke, etc.), you may need to replace it more often." No Levoit manual or product page gives an hours-per-day figure, a total-operating-hours threshold, or a room or air-quality baseline. So 6-8 months is an unanchored manufacturer recommendation, not a duty cycle that can be planned against. Figures such as "2,000 hours" circulate only on uncited review blogs and are not recorded here. HOW THE CHECK FILTER INDICATOR DECIDES. It is a counter on the purifier, not a sensor reading the filter, and it does not clear itself when a filter is fitted — hence the manual reset. Levoit does document what drives it: the troubleshooting page of the Core 300 manual (page 14) covers both the case where the indicator "has not turned on within 8 months" and the case where it "turned on before 6 months", and explains in each that the indicator "will light up based on how much the air purifier has been used". Both outcomes are treated as normal behaviour rather than faults, which also gives the practical bracket: a light before six months means heavy use, no light by eight months means light use, and neither is a reason to contact support.

Nothing here is a measurement of ours: every figure is either documented by the manufacturer or published by an independent standards or testing body, and where the two disagree this page says so.

  • WHICH REVISION SHIPS IS NOT KNOWABLE FROM THE LISTING. Its specification table says the model number is Core 300S; its included-components line says the box holds a Core 300S-P. Both listings in this family state both. What that means for a buyer, and how to identify the unit that arrives, is set out at the top of this page.
  • THE LISTING TITLE CLAIMS “AHAM VERIFIDE”, AND THAT CLAIM IS TRUE OF EITHER REVISION. AHAM's live directory carries the plain Core 300S and all three Core 300S-P variants. The mark therefore settles nothing about which unit is in the box, which is why this page still tells you how to check your own — the revisions differ on pollen CADR, on room size and, more seriously, on whether AHAM records an ion generator.
  • BOTH REVISIONS ARE CARB CERTIFIED, UNDER DIFFERENT ORDERS AND DIFFERENT DEVICE TYPES. Read from the complete CARB list: the plain Core 300S is Mechanical under G-21-183; LAP-C302S-WUSR and LAP-C302S-WUSB, which are the -P revision, are Electronic under G-21-544. There is no LAP-C301S row — CARB lists the plain unit by its marketing name and the -P by its internal code, which is why searching the list for one spelling does not turn up the other.
  • ⚠️ AN AHAM VERIFIDE ENTRY DOES EXIST FOR THE CORE 300S, AND THIS PAGE ONCE SAID IT DID NOT. The live directory carries "LEVOIT - Core 300S, Room Size 219 ft2, Smoke CADR 141, Dust CADR 156, PM2.5 CADR 148, Pollen CADR 175, Annual Energy Consumption 317, Integrated Energy Factor 2.70", read in the directory's own interface at ahamdir.com on 14 September 2026. Those are the figures now shown above. The earlier conclusion came from a query that returned nothing and was trusted over data we already held; the query was at fault, not the directory.
  • MANUFACTURER OF RECORD: AROVAST CORPORATION, 1202 N. Miller St. Suite A, Anaheim, CA 92806, USA. This is the address AHAM's directory prints against the Core 300S record and against every other Levoit record we read.
  • ASIN WITHHELD — THIS IS THE BLOCKER. Amazon's listing twister exposes style_name ["Core 300S","Core 300S-P","Core 300-P 1Pack","Core 300-P 2Pack","Core P350-P","Vital Pet"] with dimensionToAsinMap {"2_0":"B0G19ZCNP9","2_1":"B08L73QL1V"}: B08L73QL1V sits in the Core 300S-P slot and its Included Components field reads "1 x Core 300S-P Smart Air Purifier", while B0G19ZCNP9 sits in the Core 300S slot. Amazon's own attribute tables are self-contradictory (B08L73QL1V: model number "Core 300S", part number "Core 300S", 23 W; B0G19ZCNP9: model number "Core 300S", part number "Core 300S-P", 39 W). We cannot determine from any source which physical revision ships from which child, so the ASIN is null and no affiliate link is published until a human confirms it.
  • ION GENERATOR ON THE SUCCESSOR, UNEXPLAINED BY THE MANUFACTURER — AND AHAM SEPARATES THE TWO. It records the plain Core 300S as model type "Fan with Filter" and all three Core 300S-P entries as "Fan Filter* with Ion Generator". CARB agrees, certifying LAP-C302S-WUSR and LAP-C302S-WUSB as Electronic (G-21-544, 2021-12-28) and LAP-C302-WUSR as "PlasmaPro" (G-21-564, 2022-01-04). Levoit's shared Core 300S / 300S-P manual describes no ion, plasma or ozone-producing component and documents no control to disable one. Two certifiers say the shipping revision has an emitter; the manufacturer's own documentation does not acknowledge it.
  • NO EFFICIENCY FIGURE IS PUBLISHED FOR THIS MODEL. "H13 True HEPA" and "removes 99.97% of ultrafine particles down to 0.3 microns" have been removed. The cited 24-page manual contains zero occurrences of HEPA, H13, 99.97 or micron, and the current product page contains none either (confirmed on a direct fetch). The 99.97% sentence exists only on Levoit's Core 300-P Original Filter page, whose stated compatibility is Core 300-P, Core P350-P and Core 300-P-RAC and does not name the Core 300S; that same page qualifies its HEPA wording to "HEPA-grade performance in Sleep Mode" (tested to IEST RP C001.7 by an independent lab). AHAM independently records the filter type as "HEPA-Type", a weaker value in its taxonomy than the "H13 HEPA" other brands declare. Levoit's legacy "true-hepa" product URL now redirects to the Core 300S-P page, so no live manufacturer page makes the H13 claim for this unit.
  • FILTER PART NUMBER CORRECTED TO Core 300-P-RF, WITH A LIVE NAMING CONFLICT. Levoit's manual and current filter page both give Core 300-P-RF. AHAM's replacement-filter link for this family still points to the older Core 300-RF (amazon.com/dp/B07RSZSYNC), Levoit's own Core 300-RF page now returns HTTP 404, and Levoit's filter page lists compatibility as Core 300-P, Core P350-P and Core 300-P-RAC without naming the Core 300S. "Core 300-RF" is retained here only as a legacy retail alias. Check the part number printed on the filter in your unit before ordering.
  • CONFLICTING MANUFACTURER SPECS, RESOLVED IN FAVOUR OF THE US MANUAL. Levoit's product page spec table states 23 W, 22–50 dB and 5.95 lb / 2.7 kg; the Levoit-hosted manual for "Core 300S series, Core 300S-P Series" states 39 W, 22–54.5 dB and 7.48 lb / 3.393 kg. The product-page block carries the 220–240 V international variant's power and weight, so its noise figure is not a reliable tiebreaker either; we record the manual's figures throughout. Dimensions agree. Levoit publishes no note reconciling the two documents.
  • ENERGY STAR CONTESTED. The Levoit manual's back page refers to "this ENERGY STAR certified model", but AHAM's directory records energyStar = false for the Core 300S and for all three Core 300S-P entries alike. Treat as unresolved between manufacturer and certifier. For contrast, AHAM does record the Core 400S as Energy Star.
  • NO US-VOLTAGE ORIGINAL CORE 300S MANUAL EXISTS ON LEVOIT.COM. Levoit's user-manuals index now serves only the combined Core 300S / Core 300S-P manual. The only standalone original Core 300S manual locatable (LAP-C301S-WAAA) is the 220–240 V international variant, which quotes 23 W, 22–50 dB, 2.7 kg and 50 m² at 2 ACH — a different voltage and a different ACH basis, so none of its figures are transferable to the US unit.
  • COVERAGE FIGURE VARIES ACROSS LEVOIT'S OWN CHANNELS. The product page states 1,051 ft² at 1 ACH in both the spec table and the marketing copy. Other listings for the same family quote 1,058 ft² and 1,073 ft². Only the 1,051 / 219 ft² pair is used here, because it is the one that carries an explicit ACH basis.
  • ALTERNATE FILTER CLAIMS ARE SPLIT BY SOURCE. The manual's replacement-filter page names exactly three parts: Core 300-P-RF (Original), Core 300-RF-PA (Pet Allergy) and Core 300-RF-TX (Toxin Absorber). The strings "4-Stage" and "Smoke Remover" appear nowhere in its 24 pages; that filter is real but is sourced to Levoit's product page cross-sell, where it is branded "Levoit Core 300-P 4-Stage Smoke Remover Replacement Filter". The manual documents the Core 300-RF-TX, not a smoke-remover filter, as the one customised for wildfire smoke.
  • FILTER LIFE IS A RANGE, NOT A POINT. Levoit documents "every 6–8 months" and says the Check Filter Indicator "should turn on within 6–8 months" depending on use. filter_life_months is recorded as 6, the conservative end.
  • NO PRICE RECORDED, BY DESIGN — prices change and a fixed price would breach the Amazon Associates operating agreement. Levoit's site does display filter prices; they are deliberately omitted here.
