Named by every source read: the live levoit.com filter page (as "Core 300-P"), the 11 Sep 2025 archived version of that same product record (as "Core 300"), the VeSync official store (both names), and the internal catalogue tag still carried in Levoit's own product data, "Accessories | For: core300-true-hepa-air-purifier".
  • Core 300-RAC — current commercial name Core 300-P-RAC. It is one of the two models printed in the Model field of the Core 300 manual that prescribes Core 300-P-RF, it is named on the live levoit.com filter page as "Core 300-P-RAC", and on the archived version of the same record as "Core 300-RAC". The VeSync store's six-model list does not enumerate it; that is an omission, not a contrary claim.

  • DISPUTED, NOT LISTED HERE — Core 300S and Core 300S-P. The Core 300S manual itself prescribes Core 300-P-RF on page 12, and the VeSync store, the Smoke Remover page and Levoit's own catalogue tag all name the 300S — but the Original filter's own store page uses the exclusive wording "Compatible with only" and leaves the 300S out. Because a live manufacturer page actively excludes it, it stays out of this list and goes to the compatibility section below, which gives the manual reference and the check to settle it on your own unit.

Levoit does not agree with itself here

Levoit contradicts itself about this filter, in public, on its own domain. Here is who says what, why both statements exist, and how to settle it on your own appliance.

WHAT THE SAME PAGE SAID BEFORE. WHY BOTH EXIST: it is one product record, renamed. The archived page and the live page carry the same Shopify product id (8025385828503), the same variant id (43165379756183), the same SKU (HEACAFLVNUS0012A), the same barcode (817915026878), the same 590 g weight and the same image files (levoit-core-300-original-filter-871182.jpg). What changed is the URL handle — core300-air-purifier-replacement-filter became core300-p-air-purifier-replacement-filter, which is why the old address now returns 404 — plus the title and that one compatibility sentence. One physical article, two compatibility lists published on two different dates. WHAT SETTLES IT: the manual of your appliance, which is a different class of document from store copy. The Core 300 manual covers, on its cover, "Core 300 series, Core 300-P series" with the Model field "Core 300, Core 300-RAC", and on page 10, under "LEVOIT REPLACEMENT FILTERS", it lists Core 300-P-RF, Core 300-P-RF-PA and Core 300-P-RF-TX. WHERE THE "-P" COMES FROM: it is a commercial name for the platform, not a filter distinction. CARB registers "PlasmaPro" as the brand name against LAP-C302-WUSR and classes that entry as Electronic, while classing the Core 300 and Core 300S entries as Mechanical. That describes the appliance, not the cartridge, and both manuals point at the same Original filter regardless.

THE DISPUTED CASE, STATED PLAINLY: if you own a Core 300S or Core 300S-P, four manufacturer-controlled sources name your model for this filter — your own manual (page 12), the VeSync store, the Smoke Remover page and Levoit's untouched catalogue tags — while one live page, the Original filter's own, uses the word "only" and leaves you out. That is why the 300S is not in the confirmed-fit list above. Use the check below, and trust the manual line.

THE TEN-SECOND CHECK — read the label on the appliance, not the box and not the shop listing:

1) Find the rating label on the purifier. On the Core 300S it is on the BACK of the smooth upper body, just above the screen-printed "CORE 300S / AIRSIGHT PLUS" text and below the ENERGY STAR sticker: a label about 60 x 50 mm, as Levoit itself presents it in the FCC filing for FCC ID 2ARBY-CORE-300S. If your unit has no Wi-Fi, turn it over and check the base as well — the model number, serial number and production date code are printed on the product, which the warranty exclusions in the manual confirm.

2) Read the FIRST line of that label. It says "Model:" followed by the real name. On the Core 300S it reads "Model: CORE 300S" even when the box or the shop says "Core 300S-P" or "PlasmaPro 300S". The "-P" suffix is a commercial name and does not appear on the label.

3) If that line reads Core 300, Core 300-RAC or Core 300S — or one of the "-P" forms, Core 300-P, Core 300-P-RAC, Core 300S-P, or Core P350 / Core P350-P — the Original cartridge for it is Core 300-P-RF. That is the same article Levoit sold until 2025 as Core 300-RF: same SKU HEACAFLVNUS0012A and same barcode 817915026878 on the same levoit.com product record, which only changed name and web address.

4) To confirm it at the manufacturer with no intermediary: go to levoit.com/pages/user-manuals, download the manual for your model, and open the "LEVOIT REPLACEMENT FILTERS" section — page 10 in the Core 300 manual, page 12 in the Core 300S manual. Levoit prints the Original filter reference for that appliance right there. That section is what rules when the store pages disagree with each other.

5) Do not look for the reference on the cartridge. Levoit's own product photographs show only a "Made by levoit" band and a "100% Levoit Genuine" seal; the part number is on the replacement box and in the manual, not on the filter.

6) Do not confuse the Original with the variants: Core 300-RF-PA (Pet Allergy), Core 300-RF-TX (Toxin Absorber) and Core 300-RF-SR (Smoke Remover, 4 stages) are different cartridges with different media.

What the manufacturer documents

What is in the set

A single combined cartridge, not separate stages bought individually. The Levoit Core 300 user manual describes one unit containing a pre-filter for large particles (dust, lint, fibres, hair, pet fur), a main filter layer, and an activated carbon layer for smoke, odours and fumes. Only the pre-filter surface is user-serviceable; the manual instructs that the main filter and carbon layers must not be cleaned, and warns against water or liquids.

WHAT IS PRINTED ON THE CARTRIDGE: no part number. Levoit's own product photography for this filter shows a plastic band reading "Made by levoit" and a seal reading "100% Levoit GENUINE / Authentic Replacement Filter" — and nothing else. The reference lives on the replacement box and in the manual, so there is no point hunting for it on the used cartridge you are pulling out.

ON FILTRATION EFFICIENCY, report only what the manufacturer publishes, with the exact hedge it uses. The live levoit.com page for Core 300-P-RF states the main filter "removes 99.97% of ultrafine particles down to 0.3 μm". Levoit's current filter pages do not call this "True HEPA": the Smoke Remover page phrases it as "Helps Levoit Core 300-P achieve HEPA* filtration efficiency during Sleep Mode" — an asterisked claim conditioned on the quietest fan speed, not a general operating claim. The phrase "True HEPA" survives only in the legacy manual's own cover title ("True HEPA Air Purifier") and in Levoit's own internal catalogue tags. AHAM Verifide independently classifies the filterType on both Core 300S-P records as "HEPA-Type", not HEPA. These are three separate statements — a manufacturer self-declaration, a manufacturer self-declaration qualified to Sleep Mode, and a third-party registry's own classification — and each belongs to whoever said it. There is no public HEPA certification a consumer brand can obtain.

CONTEXT ABOUT THE APPLIANCE, NOT THIS CARTRIDGE: CARB certification is a legal precondition for selling or shipping a portable air cleaning device in California, in force since 2010 — a baseline, not a feature. The Core 300 family does appear on CARB's list of certified devices under the company name Levoit: Core 300 (Mechanical, 2019-08-01, G-19-112), Core300-RAC (Mechanical, 2019-12-12, G-19-213), Core 300-PA (Mechanical, 2019-08-19, G-19-119), Core 300S (Mechanical, 2021-05-13, G-21-183), LAP-C302S-WUSR and LAP-C302S-WUSB (both Electronic, 2021-12-28, G-21-544), and PlasmaPro LAP-C302-WUSR (Electronic, 2022-01-04, G-21-564). So the "CARB compliant" wording on Levoit's Core 300-P page can be matched to registry entries. Two details worth noting because they explain the naming: CARB classes the Core 300 and Core 300S entries as Mechanical and the LAP-C302 / LAP-C302S entries as Electronic, which is the category used for emitters; and CARB registers the brand name "PlasmaPro" against LAP-C302-WUSR. AHAM, separately, classifies both Core 300S-P records as "Fan Filter* with Ion Generator". None of that changes the cartridge.

How often to change it

Levoit states 6-8 months. The live levoit.com filter page words it "We recommend replacing your filters every 6 to 8 months"; the Core 300 and Core 300S manuals word it "The filter should be replaced every 6-8 months."

The usage assumption behind that range is not published, and that is the part worth knowing. Levoit documents only that the interval is usage-dependent — the manual adds "You may need to replace your filter earlier or later depending on how often you use your air purifier," and the VeSync store page adds "If you live with high exposure to pollutants (airborne fur, dust, smoke, etc.), you may need to replace it more often." No Levoit manual or product page gives an hours-per-day figure, a total-operating-hours threshold, or a room or air-quality baseline. So 6-8 months is an unanchored manufacturer recommendation, not a duty cycle that can be planned against. Figures such as "2,000 hours" circulate only on uncited review blogs and are not recorded here.

HOW THE CHECK FILTER INDICATOR DECIDES. It is a counter on the purifier, not a sensor reading the filter, and it does not clear itself when a filter is fitted — hence the manual reset. Levoit does document what drives it: the troubleshooting page of the Core 300 manual (page 14) covers both the case where the indicator "has not turned on within 8 months" and the case where it "turned on before 6 months", and explains in each that the indicator "will light up based on how much the air purifier has been used". Both outcomes are treated as normal behaviour rather than faults, which also gives the practical bracket: a light before six months means heavy use, no light by eight months means light use, and neither is a reason to contact support.

Resetting the filter indicator

  1. The indicator does not clear itself. Fitting a new filter does nothing to the light — the reset is a manual button press.
  2. STANDARD CASE, the Check Filter Indicator is already lit: 1) Replace the filter. 2) Turn on the air purifier. 3) "Press and hold for 3 seconds." 4) The indicator turns off when the reset succeeds. (Core 300 / Core 300-P manual, page 11, "Resetting the Check Filter Indicator".)
  3. EARLY-CHANGE CASE, you replaced the filter before the light ever came on: the same manual page documents this as a separate case — "The filter was changed before [indicator] lit up" — and it takes TWO presses, not one. First: "Press and hold for 3 seconds. This will turn on [indicator]." Then: "Press and hold again for 3 seconds," and the indicator goes out.
  4. So if you press and hold once and the light comes ON rather than off, nothing is broken and the button is not faulty — that is the documented first half of the early-change sequence. Press and hold a second time for 3 seconds to clear it.
  5. The press-and-hold duration is 3 seconds in every case.
  6. Core 300S owners: follow the reset page of your own manual. A mirror of the Core 300S manual describes the early-change case as a single press-and-hold with the icon flashing for 3 seconds before clearing, which differs from the two-press sequence the Core 300 / Core 300-P manual documents. Download your model's manual from levoit.com/pages/user-manuals and use the sequence printed there.

Genuine vs third-party filters

Only what Levoit / Arovast documents, reported as their position and not extended into a recommendation.

WHAT THE MANUALS SAY: "To maintain the performance of your air purifier, only use Official Levoit filters." (Core 300 manual; the Core 300S manual carries the same sentence in lower case.)

WHAT THE LIVE FILTER PAGE SAYS: "Levoit's Filter Life Indicator and built-in algorithm only works with authentic filters. Using non-genuine filters may lead to delayed replacement, lower air quality, and damaged purifier motor." The first sentence is a specific functional claim — that the replacement reminder is keyed to authentic filters — and the second is a statement of risk, not of warranty consequence.

WHAT THE LEVOIT LIMITED WARRANTY (Arovast Corporation) ACTUALLY SAYS. The term is "2 years from the date of original purchase". Three clauses are relevant and none of them is a blanket third-party-filter exclusion: - Filters are excluded as consumables in their own right. The warranty does not cover "Normal wear and tear, including parts that might wear out over time (e.g. batteries, filters, cleaning brush, essential oil pads, etc.)" — so no filter, genuine or not, is itself a warranty item. - Separately, the warranty does not apply "To damages caused by connecting peripherals, additional equipment or accessories other than those recommended in the user manual." - And: "This limited warranty does not extend to products purchased from unauthorized dealers or sellers."

WHAT IS NOT IN THE WARRANTY: there is no clause stating that fitting a third-party filter voids the purifier's warranty. Levoit's documented position is about performance and damage liability, not about voiding coverage. The practical consequence is narrower than the folklore: if a non-genuine filter is alleged to have caused a failure, that damage falls outside coverage under the accessories clause — but merely having used one is not documented as voiding anything.

One buying note that follows from the same warranty text: the "unauthorized dealers or sellers" clause applies to the purifier itself, so where the appliance was bought matters more to coverage than which cartridge is in it.

When something goes wrong

Symptom Why it happens What to do
Check Filter Indicator stays lit after fitting a brand-new filter. The indicator is a counter on the purifier, not a sensor reading the filter, and installing a new cartridge does not clear it. The Core 300 manual explains that it "will light up based on how much the air purifier has been used", and documents a manual reset procedure — which is why a reset is needed at all. Turn the unit on and press and hold the Check Filter Indicator button for 3 seconds until the light goes out. If you replaced the filter before the light ever came on, the manual documents a two-press sequence: hold 3 seconds (the indicator comes ON), then hold 3 seconds again (it goes out). A light that comes on at the first press is the expected halfway point, not a fault.
Airflow drops to almost nothing, and/or the unit makes an unusual noise, right after a filter change. The plastic packaging was left on the new filter. This is a common cause of both symptoms straight after a replacement, and Levoit's install instruction exists precisely because of it. Unplug the unit, remove the filter, take it fully out of its plastic wrap, and refit it with the handle facing up. While you are there, the Core 300S manual asks for "at least 38 cm / 15 inches of clearance on all sides" — a unit pushed against a wall or into a corner will also read as weak airflow.
A persistent unpleasant smell from the unit that a new filter does not fix. Oil contamination of the filter media. Page 10 of the Core 300 / Core 300-P manual states: "Do not add essential oils to the air purifier or filter... Do not use oil diffusers near the air purifier." The same page sets a humidity limit of below 85% RH for operation. Replace the cartridge; an oil-contaminated filter cannot be washed clean, because the main and carbon layers are not cleanable. Stop diffusing oils near the purifier and keep it out of rooms running above 85% relative humidity. If the smell persists after a fresh filter, it is a support case, not a filter case.
Trying to extend filter life by washing, rinsing or deep-vacuuming the cartridge. Only the pre-filter surface is serviceable. The manual instructs that the main filter and activated carbon layers must not be cleaned, and separately warns against using water or liquids on them. Washing a carbon and fibre-media cartridge destroys it. Vacuum or brush loose hair and lint from the pre-filter surface only, and replace the cartridge on schedule. If airflow is still low after cleaning the pre-filter, the cartridge is spent and the remedy is replacement — a clogged pre-filter and a spent filter are distinct causes.

  • Corporate identity behind the brand, and why it is worth stating: a brand of Arovast Corporation. The manufacturer's own documents give two different corporate addresses: the limited-warranty box in the current Core 300 / Core 300-P user manual hosted on levoit.com gives Arovast Corporation, 1775 Flight Way, Suite 150, Tustin, CA 92782, while the FCC filing for the Core 300S (FCC ID 2ARBY-CORE-300S) gives 1202 N. Miller St., Suite A, Anaheim, CA 92806.
  • THE CARTRIDGE CARRIES NO PART NUMBER. Levoit's own product photographs show only a "Made by levoit" band and a "100% Levoit GENUINE / Authentic Replacement Filter" seal. Consequence for the buyer: you cannot confirm what you currently own by reading the old filter, and a seller photo of a cartridge proves nothing about which reference it is. Identify from the appliance's rating label and the manual instead.
  • NO MANUFACTURER PHOTO DOCUMENTS THE LABEL POSITION ON THE NON-WI-FI CORE 300. The 60 x 50 mm rating label and its placement are documented only for the Core 300S, because Wi-Fi models have an FCC filing with a label exhibit and the non-radio Core 300 does not.
