Does NOT fit — commonly confused

  • Coway Airmega MightyS AP-1512HHS - Coway states plainly: "Please keep in mind that AP-1512HH AND AP-1512HH(W) require a different filter than AP-1512HHS." The HHS takes SKU 3107167 (one HEPA filter plus one honeycomb activated carbon filter). Its serial code is 02F5O, which Coway names as an explicit NOT-COMPATIBLE example for this set.
  • Coway AP-1519P - Coway's alternative model name for the AP-1512HHS (Coway's product URL is /products/airmega-ap-1512hhs-ap-1519p and the HHS filter set page lists "Alternative Name: AP-1519P"). Many third-party listings advertise this set as fitting "AP-1519P"; Coway's own documentation contradicts that.
  • Coway Airmega Mighty2 AP-1512N - the successor model. Coway sells it its own "Airmega Mighty2 AP-1512N filter set" and states that set "lasts up to 12 months". The name is one character from AP-1512HH and it is the model Coway now sells in this slot, so it is the easiest mistake to make.
  • Any AP-1512HH or 200M whose serial code after the first 3 digits is not on Coway's published lists - Coway's worked example, 41102F5O5249617250, is explicitly "NOT COMPATIBLE WITH 200M & AP-1512HH FILTER SET".
  • Coway Airmega 150 / 160, 230, 240, 250 / 250S, 300 / 300S, 350, 400 / 400S, 450, Icon / IconS, ProX, Aim and AP-1216L - each is sold by Coway with its own distinct filter set on cowaymega.com. The 250/300/400/Icon lines use "Max2" filters, a different physical part entirely.
  • Coway AP-0512NH - not covered by this set either, but note that cowaymega.com stocks neither the AP-0512NH nor a filter for it, so no Coway store page can be cited for it (see the notes below).

Coway does not agree with itself here

Coway contradicts Coway on two points that bear on what you should order. Neither is settled here; both are laid out with the procedure that answers the only question that matters - whether this set fits YOUR unit.

1) WHICH NUMBER DESIGNATES THIS SET. Coway's own product page body reads "SKU: 3304899 or 3109905 or 3118096" (https://cowaymega.com/products/airmega-200m-ap-1512hh-filter-set), while that same page's variant data assigns Intense Smoke 00003116999, Allergen 00003117063, Fresh Starter 00003118096 and Pet 00003117062 (https://cowaymega.com/products/airmega-200m-ap-1512hh-filter-set.json). Only 3118096 appears on both sides. And Coway's own Amazon brand listing title pairs "AP-1512HH-FP Fresh Starter, 3304899" (https://www.amazon.com/Coway-3304899-Replacement-Filter-AP1512HH/dp/B00C7WMQTW) - so two Coway-controlled listings give the same Fresh Starter set two different numbers. Consequence: the SKU is not a safe way to buy this set. Order by the set name, "Airmega 200M & AP-1512HH Filter Set", and pick the deodorization variant you want (Fresh Starter, Intense Smoke, Allergen or Pet).

2) WHICH UNITS IT COVERS. The filter set's own compatibility line names only "Airmega Mighty AP-1512HH (White/Black) and Airmega 200M (White/Black)" (https://cowaymega.com/products/airmega-200m-ap-1512hh-filter-set). Coway's Airmega Mighty Beige page cross-lists this same set under "AIRMEGA MIGHTY FILTER AND RELATED PRODUCTS" and says the Beige unit (AP-1512HHC) ships with a fresh starter, an intense smoke and a HEPA filter - this set's own variant names (https://cowaymega.com/products/airmega-mighty-ap-1512hhc). Coway publishes no serial-code list for the AP-1512HHC, so the Beige is not carried in the fitted list on this page. Consequence for a Beige owner: run the test below before ordering.

HOW TO SETTLE IT ON YOUR OWN UNIT. This is the test Coway itself publishes, and it takes about ten seconds with the unit in front of you: a. Find the serial label. What the manufacturer documents

What is in the set

Coway sells the replacement set for this unit as the "Airmega Mighty AP-1512HH & 200M Filter Set". Coway's product page says it "includes 1 HEPA filter and 2 deodorization filters for odor control"; Coway elsewhere describes the same contents as "AP-1512HH filter set(Two custom filters & HEPA filter)". The two deodorization (activated carbon) cartridges and the HEPA cartridge are separate pieces, not one combined unit. The pre-filter - Coway's stage 1, installed frontmost - is washable and reusable and is NOT part of the replacement set; Coway sells it separately as the "Airmega 200M & AP-1512HH Pre-Filter" (SKU 3105422).

Coway calls the deepest stage a "True HEPA" filter. No public HEPA certification exists that a manufacturer can obtain, so that label and the numbers attached to it are Coway's own declarations and are reported here as Coway's wording, not asserted: Coway says the True HEPA filter "effectively removes fine dust and cigarette smoke up to 99.97%", and its store page ties the 99.97% figure to particles "as small as 0.3 microns in size". Coway publishes no test method or standard behind the cigarette-smoke wording, and the percentage describes filter-media efficiency as published by Coway about its own product - not a whole-room removal rate and not an independent test result. Coway describes the other two stages as follows: the pre-filter "removes relatively large dust ... human hair, pet hair, and so on", and the deodorization filter is the stage Coway describes as targeting odor and gas.

Stack order front to back, as printed in the manual: "Pre-filter > Deodorization filter > True HEPA filter". Coway's setup support article states the installation sequence from the other end - "Install the filters in the correct order: HEPA Filter, Deodorization Filter, and Pre-Filter" - i.e. the HEPA seats deepest and the pre-filter goes in last, nearest the front cover. Both are Coway's own wording and they describe the same stack from opposite ends.

Separately from the filters, the AP-1512HH has an ionizer. Coway states it "is optional and can be turned on / off" from the panel's Ionizer button, and the manual shows an Ionizer indicator and an Ionizer button on the operation panel. Because of it, CARB lists the AP-1512HH as an Electronic air cleaning device (Executive Order G-16-011) rather than a Mechanical one; CARB's electronic category is tested to an ozone limit of 0.050 ppm. CARB certification is a legal requirement for selling or shipping a portable air cleaner into California, not a feature, and CARB itself states that certification "does not reflect air cleaner effectiveness or 'health safety'". Replacing filters does not change the ionizer; switch it off at the button if you do not want it.

How often to change it

Coway's manual gives a per-filter table rather than a single number. Pre-filter - every 2~4 weeks, method CLEANING (it is washed and refitted, not replaced). Deodorization filter - every 6 months, method REPLACEMENT. The filter Coway labels "True HEPA" - every 1 year, method REPLACEMENT. The usage assumption is printed directly under the table: "Each service life is based on 8-hour use in maximum air speed." Coway adds: "The recommended filter replacement cycles may differ depending on the operating environment." Coway's store page repeats the same intervals as "Filter Life Expectancy: Custom Filter (6 Months), HEPA (1 Year)."

Resetting the filter indicator

  1. Normal reset, after replacing a filter at the end of its cycle (AP-1512HH manual, FILTER REPLACEMENT): the reset indicator blinks when a filter needs replacing. Odor LED = Deodorization Filter; HEPA LED = the filter Coway labels True HEPA.
  2. Replace the filter the blinking LED points to, then, in Coway's words: "After replacing filter, push the Reset button for 2 seconds." The Filter Reset button is button 5 on the operation panel.
  3. Note documented by Coway: "The pollution level indicator will not turn on if the filter replacement indicator is activated." The colored air-quality ring staying dark is expected until you clear the reset.
  4. FORCIBLE RESET MODE - use this when you replaced a filter EARLY, before the indicator came on. Coway: "When you have replaced a filter before the filter replacement cycle is reached, you can forcibly reset the filter replacement cycle back to the factory default setting."
  5. Forcible reset step 1: "When the reset function is not activated, press and hold the reset button for 2 seconds."
  6. Forcible reset step 2: "Press the reset button to select the desired filter to forcibly reset. Press once : Odor LED (Deodorization Filter). Press twice : HEPA LED (True HEPA Filter)"
  7. Forcible reset step 3: "After you select the filter to reset, press and hold the reset button for 2 seconds. And then, the accumulated time in electronic time counter is erased."
  8. Timeout documented by Coway: "If there is no input for 5 seconds in forcible reset mode, the reset mode is cancelled." Work quickly or start over.

Genuine vs third-party filters

Coway's position, quoted from its own documents, is about performance and warranty scope - Coway publishes no safety claim about third-party filters. (1) The AP-1512HH user manual, under FILTER REPLACEMENT / TIPS: "To maintain optimal performance of the product, use original Coway filters." (2) The Coway Limited Warranty Policy for the United States lists, under "WHAT IS NOT COVERED?", among the product issues the Limited Warranty does not cover: "the use of non-genuine Coway filters, parts or accessories". The same list separately excludes "failure to make proper routine or preventative maintenance of the Product by the customer (e.g. replacement of consumable parts including water or air filters, cleaning of the Product)". The air purifier's Limited Warranty period is one (1) year from the date of original retail purchase. (3) Coway's own filters carry only a short separate warranty, and only when bought direct: "Cowaymega warrants that your Airmega filters will be free from defects in material or workmanship for (30) days from the date of the ship-out date, provided that you have used the filters according to the manufacturer's recommended filter replacement schedule listed in the Airmega User Manual." Coway states this "only applies to the customers who purchased Airmega filters at Cowaymega.com." (4) Coway's store page markets genuine filters as: "Maintain your Airmega with genuine Coway Filters for superior performance, optimal filtration, improved air quality, and a longer lifespan for your air purifier." Coway publishes no test data comparing third-party filters with its own, and makes no documented claim that third-party filters are unsafe.

(5) The warranty exclusion above is quoted as Coway's written warranty term, not as a statement of what is enforceable. Under the Magnuson-Moss Warranty Act (15 U.S.C. 2302(c)), a warrantor generally may not condition warranty coverage on the use of branded parts unless those parts are supplied free of charge or the FTC has granted a waiver; FTC staff sent warning letters over exactly this kind of language in April 2018. Fitting a third-party filter does not automatically void the unit's warranty; Coway would have to show the part caused the failure it is refusing to cover.

When something goes wrong

The set is sold as the filter for "AP-1512HH" but it will not fit the unit, or it fits a near-identical-looking Coway it was not meant for. Coway ships several visually similar Mighty-family units under confusingly close model names, and even within the AP-1512HH name there are production runs this set does not cover. That is why Coway publishes a serial-code test: an AP-1512HH / AP-1512HH(W) takes this set only if the 5 characters after the first 3 digits of its serial are 02E90, 02FI6 or 02EMY, and an Airmega 200M only if they are 02F39, 02FAQ, 02F7F or 02FAE. Coway's own not-compatible example is 41102F5O5249617250 - 02F5O is the AP-1512HHS, also sold as AP-1519P, which Coway says "require[s] a different filter". The newer Airmega Mighty2 is AP-1512N and takes yet another set. Before ordering, read the serial label on the back of the unit (or on its box) and check the 5 characters after the first 3 digits against Coway's published lists. If the code is 02F5O you need the AP-1512HHS set, SKU 3107167, not this one. If the model plate says AP-1512N you need the Mighty2 set. Coway's per-model filter-replacement support articles carry the authoritative code lists.
New filters are in, but the filter replacement indicator is still lit or blinking. The AP-1512HH counts elapsed run time in an internal counter; installing a filter does not clear it. The counter is cleared only by a deliberate button action, and there are two different actions depending on whether the cycle had actually run out. If the indicator had already come on, press and hold the Filter Reset button for 2 seconds. If you replaced the filter early - before the indicator came on - the plain reset will not do it; use Coway's forcible reset mode: press and hold Reset for 2 seconds, press Reset once for the Odor LED (deodorization) or twice for the HEPA LED, then press and hold Reset for 2 seconds again to erase the accumulated time. The mode cancels itself after 5 seconds with no input.
After a filter change the air-quality ring on top stays dark and never changes color. This is documented behavior, not a fault. Coway's manual states: "The pollution level indicator will not turn on if the filter replacement indicator is activated." A second, separate cause of a stuck-color indicator in Coway's troubleshooting table is dust on the air-quality sensor lens. Clear the filter replacement indicator first (Reset button, 2 seconds) and the air-quality ring returns. If it still will not change color, follow Coway's cleaning procedure: open the air quality sensor cover on the right-hand side, clean the air inlet and outlet vents with a soft brush or vacuum, then clean the lens, dust inlet and dust outlet with a lightly wetted cotton swab and dry with a dry swab. Coway lists this as an every-2-months job.
The unit will not power on, or airflow is weak and a bad smell comes from the air outlet, right after a filter change. Three documented causes. First, the front cover: the AP-1512HH has a safety interlock - Coway's spec sheet lists "Fan motor is shut down when front cover is open", and Coway's setup article warns "There may be an issue with the unit powering on if the front cover is not attached correctly or securely." Second, the plastic bags: Coway's manual says "Make sure to remove each filter's plastic bag before installing filters." Third, filters loaded in the wrong slot or facing the wrong way. Coway states the stack two different ways: the manual gives the front-to-back order "Pre-filter > Deodorization filter > True HEPA filter", while Coway's setup support article gives the insertion sequence in the opposite direction, "HEPA Filter, Deodorization Filter, and Pre-Filter". Both describe the same stack - HEPA deepest, pre-filter nearest the front cover. Coway also says "Check that the 'front' side of filters are in the correct direction." Unplug, open the front cover, confirm every filter is out of its plastic wrapper, then reseat them with the HEPA cartridge deepest, the deodorization cartridge next, and the pre-filter nearest the front cover, each with its marked front face forward; push the pre-filter grip until it clips in, then refit the front cover firmly until it seats. Coway's troubleshooting table pairs weak airflow and outlet odor with the same check: "Check the filter cleaning and replacement cycles and then clean/replace the filter(s) if necessary."

  • "AP-1512HH-FP" is not a Coway reference. It appears nowhere Coway controls - not in the store's catalogue or its search, not in the user manual, not in the support knowledge base - and survives only as title text on retail listings for this set, including Coway's own Amazon listing. Consequence for a buyer: nothing can be ordered by that string with any guarantee of what arrives, and a seller who leads with it is repeating a listing title, not a manufacturer reference. Order by the set name and confirm fitment with the serial-code test.
  • Coway publishes two set-level numbers, 3304899 and 3109905, that match none of the four variants it currently sells, and it explains neither anywhere - not on the store, not in the manual, not in support. Consequence for a buyer: a listing advertising 3304899 or 3109905 cannot be checked against anything Coway publishes, so the number says nothing about which deodorization variant is in the box or whether the contents match the set Coway sells today. Buy by set name plus variant name, and settle fitment with the serial code.
  • Coway's documentation carries no part numbers at all. Neither the AP-1512HH / AP-1512HH(W) user manual nor the per-model filter-replacement support articles list a SKU; the support article for this unit gives only the set's name ("AIRMEGA 200M & AP-1512HH FILTER SET") and the compatible serial codes. Consequence: there is no manufacturer document against which a buyer can check a seller's part number. The set name and the serial code are the only manufacturer-published identifiers, which is why fitment on this page is anchored to them.
  • Filter dimensions are not published by Coway - not in the manual, not on its store product page, not in its support articles. Coway's own Amazon brand listing states Product Dimensions 15" L x 13" W x 0.2" Th, a single-cartridge figure from a retail listing rather than a manufacturer spec sheet, and it conflicts with the 15" x 13" x 1.38" quoted by various third-party sellers. Because the two disagree on thickness and Coway publishes nothing, we do not publish a dimension for it. Consequence for a buyer: if you are sizing an aftermarket filter, measure the one in your unit rather than trusting either figure.
  • No carbon weight, filter media area or airflow-resistance figure is published by Coway for this set, in the manual, on the store product page or in support. A MERV rating does exist, but only on Coway's Amazon brand listing, which states MERV 13 in its details table; no Coway manual or support document carries it and no test method is published for it. Consequence: MERV 13 here is a retail-listing figure, not a manufacturer specification, and there is no published basis on which to compare this set's media with an aftermarket one.
  • Coway publishes two opposite filter install sequences - the manual's front-to-back stack "Pre-filter > Deodorization filter > True HEPA filter" and the setup article's insertion order "HEPA Filter, Deodorization Filter, and Pre-Filter". They are reconcilable, but neither is presented here as the single stated order.   • The forcible-reset timeout differs between manual revisions: the Coway-hosted PDF (rev. 19.07.17) says the mode cancels after 5 seconds with no input, while another revision circulating online says 10 seconds. The 5-second figure is the one recorded because it is the revision Coway links from its own support site.
